Itchy nose and throat, watery eyes, and sneezing are the common symptoms of a cold. In fact, allergies and the common cold are practically the same thing in terms of how it affects you. The seasons changing can trigger all sorts of allergy issues. Use the concepts in this article to combat the causes of your allergies.

If you suffer from allergies, it is important to keep your home clean and vacuumed to remove allergens from carpets and floors. But, did you know that your vacuum not only sucks up allergens, it blows some of them right back out! Let someone without allergies do the vacuuming, or at least wear a dust mask if you have to do it yourself.

Use high-quality, anti-allergen filters in your home heating and cooling system. These filters, which are usually pleated to maximize surface area, remove even the smallest particles of pollen, dander, and other irritants from the air. Because these filters clog more easily than standard filters, you must remember to change them more frequently.

Watch your local weather forecast to see if pollen is high for that day. If it is, its best that you minimize your time spent outdoors. If you do want to go outdoors, make sure its not between the hours of 5 and 10 A.M. This is the time when pollen is high.

Treating your allergic symptoms for the first time with antihistamines prescription or over the counter is best to approach it cautiously. Many of these products are notorious for causing severe drowsiness; there is no way to determine how your body will respond. With this in mind, you should take the first dose at home to avoid safety mishaps or impairments.

Get an allergy test. Knowing exactly what you are allergic to, can be the single greatest advantage you can have in dealing with allergies. Not all pollen is the same. Some people are triggered by tree pollen, others by grass or weeds. What you thought was an allergy to pet dander, may actually be an allergy caused by undiagnosed dust mite or mold problems in your home. Only an allergy test can provide you with definitive evidence of your triggers so you can create an appropriate plan to deal with them.

Exercise

Since exercise increases the amount of air your lungs take in, if you have pesky allergies, keep your workouts indoors. All of the pollen and other particulates that trigger your allergic reactions will get into your system much quicker and in a greater amount when doing any strenuous activity outdoors.

Exercise at the right time of day. If you like to exercise outdoors, yet you are an allergy sufferer, there are things that can be done so you can still enjoy the experience. Its better to exercise outdoors in the early morning or later in the evening as the pollen levels arent as high at these times and less likely to cause issues with your allergies.

If you are exercising outside during allergy season, and you are having trouble breathing, you should consider lightening your outdoor workout. Try running less, or not as hard so it is easier for you to breathe. Exercise is very important so keep it up!

Nutrition

If you are prone to allergic reactions from scented or perfumed products, dont forget that shampoos and lotions usually contain large amounts of perfume and chemicals. Go for the basics and choose hypo-allergenic products from your health food store or nutrition center. Use fragrance-free deodorants and laundry soaps as well.

Some allergy sufferers are relatively lucky, because they have triggers that are easy for them to avoid. Food allergies (such as sensitivity to peanuts or strawberries) would be one example. But, other kinds of allergies, like those that are triggered by pollen, are more difficult to manage. Keep these tips in mind so that you can stop your symptoms.
